Abstract

The availability of timely and accurate agricultural data is the foundation for implementing targeted agricultural policies. Since 2018, the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) has been collaborating with the Agency for the Assessment and Application of Technology (BPPT) and the National Institute of Aeronautics and Space (LAPAN)—which have now merged to form the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN)— the Ministry of Agrarian Affairs and Spatial Planning/National Land Agency (Ministry of ATR/BPN), and the Geospatial Information Agency (BIG) to improve the methodology for calculating rice harvest area through the application of objective measurement, leveraging advances in information and communication technology and the availability of high-resolution satellite imagery. This collaboration is manifested in an initiative titled “Integrated Agricultural Statistics for Food Crops Using the Area Sampling Frame (KSA) Method,” better known as the KSA Survey. The implementation of the KSA Survey for rice began nationwide in 2018. Field observations for the KSA Survey are conducted during the last 7 (seven) days of each month. Based on the results of the KSA Survey, in 2025, the harvested area for rice is projected to reach approximately 322,900 hectares, representing an increase of 41,180 hectares (14.62 percent) compared to 2024. Meanwhile, rice production in 2025 is projected to reach 1.71 million metric tons of milled dry paddy (GKG). When converted to rice, production in 2025 is expected to reach approximately 973,140 metric tons, representing an increase of 145,360 metric tons (17.56 percent) compared to rice production in 2024. In addition to providing estimates of harvested area, the KSA Survey also offers insights into other rice growth phases, such as the areas in the early vegetative, late vegetative, and generative phases; the potential for crop failure; the area of fallow farmland; and the area of farmland planted with crops other than rice.
