Abstract

The availability of timely and accurate agricultural data is the foundation for realizing targeted agricultural policies. Since 2018, BPS has collaborated with the Agency for the Assessment and Application of Technology (BPPT) the National Institute of Aeronautics and Space (LAPAN) which are now merged into the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN), the Ministry of Agrarian Affairs and Spatial Planning/National Land Agency (Ministry of ATR/BPN), and the Geospatial Information Agency (BIG) to improve the methodology for calculating rice harvested area through the application of objective measurement by utilizing advances in information and communication technology and the availability of high-resolution satellite imagery. This collaboration is realized in an activity entitled Integrated Food Crop Agricultural Statistics Data Collection with the Area Sample Frame Method (KSA) or better known as the KSA Survey. The implementation of the KSA Survey for rice commodities began to be implemented nationally in 2018. Field observations of the KSA Survey are carried out on the last 7 (seven) days of each month. Based on the results of the KSA Survey, in 2024, the rice harvested area reached around 281.72 thousand hectares or decreased by 5.79 thousand hectares (2.02 percent) compared to 2023. Meanwhile, rice production in 2024 was 1.45 million tons of dry milled grain (GKG). If converted into rice, rice production in 2024 reached around 827.79 thousand tons, or decreased by 48.49 thousand tons (5.53 percent) compared to rice production in 2023. In addition to producing estimates of the harvested area, the KSA Survey also provides an overview of other rice observation phases, such as the area of the early vegetative phase, late vegetative, generative, potential crop failure, the area of fallow agricultural land, and the area of agricultural land planted with crops other than rice.
