Abstract

The availability of timely and accurate agricultural data is the foundation for realizing targeted agricultural policies. Since 2018, BPS has collaborated with the Agency for the Assessment and Application of Technology (BPPT) the National Institute of Aeronautics and Space (LAPAN) which has now merged into the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN), the Ministry of Agrarian and Spatial Planning/National Land Agency (Ministry of ATR/BPN), and the Geospatial Information Agency (BIG) to improve the methodology of calculating rice harvest area through the application of objective measurement by utilizing advances in information technology and communication as well as the availability of high-resolution satellite imagery. The collaboration was realized in an activity entitled Integrated Food Crop Agricultural Statistics Data Collection with the Area Sample Framework Method (KSA) or better known as the KSA Survey. The implementation of the KSA Survey for rice commodities began to be implemented nationally in 2018. Field observations The KSA survey is conducted on the last 7 (seven) days of each month. Based on the results of the KSA Survey, in 2022, the rice harvest area reached around 270.09 thousand hectares or decreased by 6.12 thousand hectares (2.22 percent) compared to 2021. Meanwhile, rice production in 2022 is 1.45 million tons GKG. If converted into rice, rice production in 2022 reached around 827.52 thousand tons, or an increase of 19.02 thousand tons (2.35 percent) compared to rice production in 2021. In addition to producing estimates of harvest area, the KSA Survey also provides an overview of other very rice phases, such as the area of the early vegetative, late vegetative, generative phases, the potential for crop failure, the area of agricultural land cultivated, and the area of agricultural land planted with crops other than rice.
